Broderick, California

Broderick (formerly, Washington) is a former town in Yolo County, California, now forming part of West Sacramento. It is located just west of the Sacramento River in the eastern portion of the county. Broderick's ZIP Code is 95605.

The town was originally named Washington, but was renamed in honor of the anti-slavery advocate and United States Senator David C. Broderick.[1]

A conteroversial civil gang injunction against a street gang identified by the West Sacramento Police Department as, "The Broderick Boys", is currently in place. The alleged gang, also according to the police, consists of mostly Latino members, and is accused of having connections to the prison gang, Nuestra Familia, and ties to similar 'Norteno' street gangs in Northern California and neighboring states. Critics of the injunction, however, cite upper class retail and residential development as the driving force behind the injunction, and cite Broderick's extremely low violent crime rate, at the time the injunction was imposed, in contrast to areas of neighboring Sacramento, California with much higher violent crime rates, where currently no injunctions are in place.
