[edit] History

The roots of Brodart can be found in the discovery of a young college student. In 1939, Arthur Brody modified some photographic film and used it to cover his textbooks for added protection. The idea caught on with other students and a company was born.

In 1954, Brodart began to manufacture a full line of furniture for use in schools, universities, and libraries. In addition, the company began its book distribution efforts. In dealing with over 20,000 publishers and stocking a warehouse of over 225,000 titles, Brodart developed automation solutions for cataloging.

Today, Mr. Brody is retired.

[edit] National Attention

Brodart gained some notoriety for its role an episode of the NBC television show, Three Wishes. The show featured a young girl suffering from cerebral palsy who had a wish to bring a library to her small Ohio town. Brodart played a pivotal role by employing all three divisions to create a complete library in a short amount of time.
