Broby municipality

Broby municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Funen County in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 100 km², and has a total population of 6,353 (2005). Its mayor is Erling Bonnesen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Nørre Broby.
Neighbouring municipalities are Ringe to the east, Årslev, Odense, and Tommerup to the north, Glamsbjerg and Haarby to the west, and Faaborg to the south.
By January 1, 2007 Broby municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Faaborg, Ringe, Ryslinge, and Årslev municipalities to form the new Faaborg-Midtfyn municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 638 km² and a total population of 51,144 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
