Broadwater, Sussex

Broadwater is a former parish in Sussex, now part of the borough of Worthing. Situated between the South Downs and the English Channel, Broadwater once included the Worthing when Worthing was a hamlet. Before its incorporation into Worthing in 1902 Broadwater also included the manor of Offington. It bordered Tarring to the east and Sompting to the west, with the sea lying to the south.
Author and naturalist William Henry Hudson is buried in Broadwater cemetery, as was Richard Jefferies, also an author and naturalist, in 1887.
Broadwater is centered around a large area of grass known as 'broadwater green' the fair vistis broawater green every year in the early summer, many other local events are held on the green such as the broadwater carnival and fireman's fair (this is because the fire station is in broadwater. There is also a parade of shops in broadwater, including a balloon/cake shop, a bridal shop, bars/pubs, small supermarket and convenience store, a funriture shop, two hair-dressers, a pharmacy and a woolworths, as well as some cafes/restarants and numerous charity shops.
Broadwater is a nice and friendly area of worthing and there is little crime. there are two schools in broadwater (broadwater C of E first and middle school, and Broadwater Manor (private school) Worthing high school is also very close to the main area of broadwater.
