I've been trying to find out what people think pages about individual coins should be named here (near the bottom). I've asked elsewhere also. Based on the differing opinions expressed about the names of currency pages, I think it should be discussed before pages start being moved. Ingrid 02:15, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Support partly because I'd follow suit of Florin (English coin), partly because it feels *right* and partly because if I read any more dialogue on Naming conventions, my head will explode! A move like this is never going to be an open / shut case, but looking at the Naming conventions, does make sense! --Lox (t,c) 09:23, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Support (obv., since I think I placed the tag)...there are lots of British coinage articles written by one particular author, whose contributions are outstanding but in need of wikification and other cleanup. A whole bunch of articles were titled "British coin..." or "English coin...", some of which I renamed (at my own discretion - if these need further renaming then do not hesitate) and some of which could not be moved because the proper name was a redirect page. Support is this in accordance with ISO that we're thinkin on implementing? Almost all of the other British coins can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject British Commonwealth Numismatics. Actually, I just looked thru there and no coins as main pages, but probly in the articles. Joe I 20:47, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I believe the two articles are about two separate times, Florin (British coin) refers to the "nineteenth and twentieth century Florin" while Florin (English coin) refers to the thirteenth and fourteenth century Florin! --Lox (t,c) 19:40, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

I am the original author of many of these British coinage articles. They were originally named very precisely (according to the then-current standard) "British" or "English" as appropriate to the period they were introduced, with the exception of the article on the penny which really ought to have been at "Mercian penny" - but there is such a thing as taking standardisation too far! In particular the articles on the English and British florins most certainly should not be merged, as they refer to totally different coins, produced by different States, with different nominal values (6s and 2s), 5-600 years apart. -- Arwel (talk) 21:30, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
