British Rail Class 416
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The British Rail Class 416 (or 2EPB) electric multiple units were built between 1953 and 1956.
They were intended for inner suburban passenger services on London's Southern Electric network, although 12 units (which were built in 1955) originally saw service on the third rail electrified Tyneside Electrics, being reallocated to the London area when the services on the southern side of the River Tyne were de-electrified in 1963
In the 1980s some units were also used on the North London Line services between Richmond and North Woolwich.
The final units were withdrawn in 1995. Three units have been preserved.
