The 5th Parachute Brigade was a war formed brigade of the British Army during the Second World War .

The 5th Para Brigade was converted from the 72nd Infantry Brigade on 1st June 1943 . It was attached to the newly formed 6th Airborne Division .

On 6th June 1944 this brigade was dropped into Normandy with the rest of the 6th Airborne Division, as part of the D-Day Landings .

On 23rd March 1945 it was involved in a second airborne drop (Operation Varsity) over the Rhine and into Germany .

On 20th July 1945 the 5th Airborne Brigade was flown to India and, after the end of hostilities, on to Singapore and Malaya where it aided in the disarming of Japanese forces.
