From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Brisbane River Stage is an outdoor entertainment venue located on the Brisbane River, Brisbane, Australia. River Stage has seen a variety of performers pass through its gates; from Powderfinger to INXS; annual community carols performances to ‘Sing for Water’ – a fundraising outlet staged as part of the River Festival. Every so often, this place becomes the hub of entertainment as the prospect of live music and good company brings 100, 000 locals and visitors to the River Stage every year. [Huang, 2005] The River Stage has had a pivotal role in performances and has played host to many events staged during the annual River Festival since the venue’s construction. [‘River Stage Brisbane Event’, 2005] The tradition of carols in the park has been one to bring the people of Brisbane together during the festive season – and this experience is heightened by the heroic structure of the stage.
Brisbane’s River Stage was officially opened on the 7th September 1989 by the Right Honourable Lord Mayor Alderman Sallyanne Atkinson, and boasts a two hectare site within the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens with a capacity of 9,000 people.
