[edit] History

Ferry services accross Brisbane River started as early as 1843, by the 1860's services operated from City to Kangaroo Point, Alice St to Naval Stores and Charlotte St to Russell St. The early services were privately run and in 1860 Brisbane City Council created by-laws governing operation, and by 1893 had taken control of ferry services leasing them out to private operators. In 1883 the first steam ferry commenced operation between Charlotte St and Kangaroo Point

Brisbane Transport now operates all ferry services leasing them out to River Connections, eight cross river services run between Hamilton, Bulimba, Hawthorne, Norman Park, Kangaroo Point, Riverside, Southbank and West End. A City Cat service runs from Hamilton to St Lucia.
