Warning: This review contains the ending to the first book
The first book leaves readers hanging with Joraiem's murder by Rulalin. The second book opens with Aljeron Balinor besieging Fel Edorath. A new character is introduced as Joraiem's son, Benjiah. He is about 15 when the story takes place. Its beginning takes place in the Palace in Wylla's home city, where she is now the queen. The whole story is split between what is happening with Aljeron and the army he controls and Benjiah traveling with Valzaan to learn about how to use the gifts he has. Aljeron and his army defeat Rulalin's army and take control of their city. Rulalin is then in the story. He goes to Malek and is "enrolled" in Malek's ranks. At the very end of the story all three different plots suddenly converge in a battle that will decide the fate of Kirthanin. After Aljeron's army flees, Valzaan confronts the Bringer of Storms only to be cast into the seas never to seen again. To be continued in the third of the series Shadow in the Deep.
