Brimpton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brimpton is a small village with 200 residents, and civil parish in Berkshire, England.

It is located in the West Berkshire district, east of Newbury and to the south of the A4 road. Other villages nearby include Aldermaston and Woolhampton, and an extension of Brimpton Brimpton Common. The entire village is surrounded by the Wasing Estate.

Services in the village include a village shop (Forge Stores), JJ's Hairdresser's, the Three Horsehoes pub, Brimpton Church and Brimpton School. There is also a village hall that is used by the Brimpton Women's Institute amongst other things. The Wasing Estate sells game shooting as well as fishing and its lands are also used by villagers for walking.

At the centre of the village is the war memorial remembering residents of Brimpton who died in the Second World War. Almost the entire village population was not called up for the First World War as the local industry was wicker-basket weaving and this was a protected industry as the baskets made in Brimpton were used to carry ammunition to the front line.
