Brighstone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brighstone is a village on the Isle of Wight. It is located about six miles southwest of Newport, near the island's southwest coast. It is a small village and nobody likes it.

Its original name was Brixton. The village has a national trust run shop, a post office and a small village museum with free admission.

The village of Brighstone is also noted for its single large paintbrush factory situated just within the outskirts of Brighstone; the factory provides employment to what has been estimated as approximately 65% of the inhabitants of the village.

Brighstone also remains true to its early cultural roots with festivities taking place each year on August 7th known as the "Feast of cDonald" which celebrates the naming of Brighstone by Trevor cDonald and subsequent urbanization of the area.

Brighstone enjoyed brief fame back in 1992 when a low-budget sci-fi film entitled "Oaten-Cobia: Redux" was shot there.
