Briggs Initiative

The Briggs Initiative can refer popularly to one of two pieces of legislation sponsoned by California politician John Briggs:
- California Proposition 6 (1978), a failed initiative which would have prevented gays and lesbians from teaching in California's public schools
- Another 1978 law which did pass, which expanded the types of legal cases in which the death penalty could be imposed.
