Starting as a simple site for the founder, Jason Rowoldt, to display several of his films, it quickly grew into a huge community with over a thousand films from directors all over the world. Now with a new owner, Joshua "RevMen" Leasure, and a busy forum, Brickfilms has grown into the largest brick animation site on the internet. It hosts contests and has been mentioned in dozens of newspapers, magazines, and other websites.

Due to be released on 1st January 2007, The Brickfilming Journal will be a book/magazine created by the members of Brickfilms.com about their hobby. It has not yet been decided on whether it is to be an annual magazine or a bi-annual one, or even if it will ever have a second issue. The BFJ will include articles about brickfilming, effects and such likes and also reviews of some of the best films of that year. The Journal may also contain comics based upon the Brickfilming community. The aim is to allow people to download the journal for free from the internet but a hard copy may be available to buy online. A lot of stuff is still in planning.
