From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brian G. Doherty (born October 25, 1957) is alderman of the 41st Ward (map) in Chicago. First elected to the Chicago City Council in 1991, he represents portions of the city's Northwest Side, including O'Hare International Airport.
Doherty is notable as the only member of the Republican Party in the Chicago City Council. But he generally supports the policies of Chicago's Democratic Mayor Richard M. Daley.
Representing an area filled mostly with single-family homes, Doherty has opposed tax increases and dense development but favors rebuilding streets and alleys. He was the only alderman to vote against slave reparations.
Doherty was a Chicago Golden Gloves boxer in 1973, 1974 and 1975, and was a Golden Glove Finalist and Champion. He was a Chicago Park District Champion as a boxer from La Fallette Park.
