[edit] Brentwood in the media
Brentwood Secondary College gained significant media exposure in 1999 when a year 11 Brentwood student, 17 year old Krystal Rowlston, disappeared from the newsagency in The Glen shopping centre on Friday 12th November. An intense four day police search uncovered the student living in South Australia. During the investigation police discovered that the student had been engaged in an illicit relationship with her Vietnamese-born Accounting and Information Technology teacher Mr. Quyen Nguyen, who had allegedly assisted in her disappearance by providing her with $1,000 in cash and a mobile phone, with alleged plans to relocate to Sydney with the student. Nguyen resigned from his position at Brentwood amidst the media exposure of his relationship with Rowlston and subsequently went into hiding.
This incident followed not long after Brentwood physical education teacher Mark Fuller resigned his position at Brentwood admist allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students during physical education classes in the mid-1990s [citation needed], causing considerable negative image for Brentwood regarding the conduct of its teachers with female students in the 1990s.
