Sopel currently plays for the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings. He was drafted in the 6th round, 144th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He has played for the Saskatoon Blades (WHL), Swift Current Broncos (WHL), Syracuse Crunch (AHL), Kansas City Blades (IHL), Vancouver Canucks (NHL), New York Islanders (NHL), and Los Angeles Kings (NHL).
