Brent D. Roper
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brent D. Roper is a member of the Westboro Baptist Church, an alleged cult, based in Topeka, Kansas. According to the book Addicted to Hate, written about the group's leader Fred Phelps, Roper was homeless in his teenage years and effectively adopted by the congregation of Westboro. He has never discussed publicly how he came to be taken in by the group. He is married to his "adoptive sister", Fred Phelps' daughter Shirley Phelps-Roper; however, there are questions as to whether or not Roper was ever formally adopted by Phelps.
Roper is Director of Human Resources for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), a Kansas City, Missouri-based association of state officials charged with insurance regulation. [1] Ironically enough, one of Brent's tasks as HR director is to teach NAIC employees about cultural sensitivity.
His association with the Westboro Baptist Church makes him a highly controversial figure.
