IMDb profile

Brennu-Njálssaga was an Icelandic short film directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson in 1980 and released the following year. This was the second filmographic work by Friðriksson and it is also known by its English title in Europe: The Saga of Burnt Njal.

The soundtrack of this film featured a song called "Brennu-Njálssaga" which was composed by the Icelandic New Wave band, Þeyr with the collaboration of Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, and this song later appeared in 1981 when they released their single Iður til Fóta (in the cassette version only).

The plot basically deals on how to burn on a fire this piece of Medieval Icelandic literature.
The book of Njál’s Saga is shown on close-up while the pages are passed by a hand, which in the end sprays kerosene and burned it with a match. The scene is accompanied by an experimental soundtrack which includes electronic sounds, noise distortions and screamings.
