Superman: Brainiac Attacks is a direct to video animated film from Warner Bros. Animation released on June 20, 2006. It aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami block three days before release on June 17, 2006. [1] It was released on DVD as a tie-in with the live-action Superman Returns.
The film features Superman battling the combined forces of Lex Luthor and Brainiac. It also focuses on the relationship between Superman and Lois Lane.
The film's visual style is based on the Superman animated series that ran in the late 1990s. Series alumni Tim Daly and Dana Delany are reunited to voice the characters of Superman and Lois Lane. This is the first time that Daly has returned to the Superman role since the 2002 video game Superman: Shadow of Apokolips, as he was not part of the cast of the Justice League animated series where the part of Superman was played by George Newbern. Clancy Brown and Corey Burton, who voiced Lex Luthor and Brainiac in the animated series and in the Justice League Unlimited series are noticeably absent in the cast of the movie. Powers Boothe and Lance Henriksen instead provided the voices of Luthor and Brainiac, respectively.
Duane Capizzi has confirmed that it was not his intent that this story become part of the DC animated universe.
