Brakiss

Brakiss is a character in the fictional Star Wars Expanded Universe.

While still young, Brakiss was discovered by the Galactic Empire to be Force-sensitive; the Empire blackmailed him through his family into becoming a spy. Though Brakiss was strong in the Force, he never came to the personal attention of Darth Vader or the Emperor themselves. Instead, Brakiss's Force talents were honed by members of the Imperial Inquisitorius, and, following, Palpatine's final death on Onderon, Brakiss was sent to infiltrate Luke Skywalker's new Jedi academy on Yavin 4.

Luke eventually confronted Brakiss, putting him through an ordeal similar to the one Skywalker himself had gone through in the cave on Dagobah. Skywalker made Brakiss confront the deepest, darkest places of his soul, but Brakiss failed to defeat them. His mind deeply scarred by the ordeal, he fled to his homeworld of Msst, then returned to the Empire to give his report—but only under the condition that he be allowed to live in peace from then on. The Imperials agreed, deeming his broken mind of little further use.

Brakiss then made his way to the droid foundries of Telti, to heal and recuperate. But he eventually fell under the influence of another fallen Jedi student of Skywalker's academy, Dolph. Dolph, adopting the name of the ancient Almanian warlord Kueller, and Brakiss attempted to overthrow the New Republic in 17 ABY by manipulating political events and the strategic detonation of powerful miniature bombs implanted in all the droids that came out of Telti, which Brakiss still controlled. Eventually their plot was discovered, Kueller was killed, and Brakiss fled once again.

Brakiss reappeared five years later as the leader of the "Shadow Academy", a cloaked space station which functioned as a training center for the Dark Jedi warriors of the "Second Imperium," a break-away faction of the Imperial Remnant who disregarded the peace treaty signed by New Republic Chief of State Ponc Gavrisom and Imperial Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon. Eventually, Brakiss gathered all his forces and attacked the Jedi praxeum on Yavin IV. Luke Skywalker's Jedi, however, proved more able than Brakiss', and the Second Imperium's forces were routed. Brakiss himself was killed when the Shadow Academy was destroyed by a Royal Guard impostor who had deceived Brakiss into believing that Emperor Palpatine was still alive.
