A bradytroph is a strain of an organism or cell tissue that exhibits slow metabolism. This may be due to an enzyme defect or absence in a metabolic pathway that is essential for growth. The absence of lethality occurs from diffusion of the missing metabolite from the external environment. A bradytroph may more often be referred to as a "leaky auxotroph".
