Bradford is a local government ward in the City of Manchester. It is on the east side of the city, about two miles from the city centre and has, more recently, also been referred to as Eastlands. Bradford has been a deprived area but it has undergone regeneration with the building of the City of Manchester Stadium which hosted the 2002 Commonwealth Games and is now home to Manchester City F.C. who moved to the stadium from Maine Road in Moss Side in 2003 - ironic, given that Manchester United F.C. used to play in neighbouring Clayton . A huge ASDA hypermarket has also been built. The district is also home to the National Cycling Centre, a cycling velodrome.
Bradford used to have a coal mine, and the nearby Clayton power station was only demolished in the 1980's.
Famous (former) residents include Buzzcocks guitarist Steve Diggle who, like Manchester City, moved to the district from Moss Side.
The current councillors are John Longden, John Smith and Neil Swannick
