Brackett Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brackett Park is a neighborhood recreation area in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is located on 28th Street between 36th Avenue, and 39th Avenue. The park includes a play area built in 2005, a smaller 'kiddie' pool, a skatepark, a tennis court, a basketball court, a baseball field, and a recreation center. The skatepark built in 2005, and official opened in June of 2006, is popular among people of all ages. The bordering tennis court was recently renovated and updated with newer equipment. Same goes with the basketball court, with new hoops, nets, and benches, not to mention the new pavement, and paint.
The recreation center includes many programs available to the public, such as Recreation Plus, a daycare program for school age kids. The kids get to participate in activities such as field trips, walks, etc. The field trips offered are usually also available to other school age children not affiliated with the program.

The park is also located on Minneapolis's own Midtown Greenway bike trail. This trail runs from the Mississippi River (only blocks from Brackett Park) all the way to Uptown on the other side of the city, and then continues as far as some third ring suburban areas.
The Brackett Rocket was a local landmark in the Minneapolis area, and it was special to many people. Sadly, in 2004, the 'Rocket' was removed in order to construct the newer, modern playground. Since then, some non-profit grounds such as the Rocket Boosters have been fighting to bring it back to the park, as public art. It will cost a large amount of money. They have plans to place the "sculpture" back to Brackett at the corner of 36th Avenue, and 28th Street. It would be supported by cables, and wires. The artist for this design is Randy Walker, a local artist in Minneapolis.
