Braal (planet)

Planet Braal is a fictional planet in the DC Comics universe. It is the homeworld of a race of magnokineticists, people who can manipulate magnetic fields. It's most famous member is Cosmic Boy, a DC Comics' superhero and founding member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. It was also home to his kid brother, who later joined the legion as Magnetic Kid. On this imaginary planet, the native creatures are made of metal, and the human inhabitants have adapted to their dangerous environment by evolving super-magnetic powers to repel the metallic beasts.

Magnoball is the most popular sport on Braal, involving an iron ball which is manipulated by Braalians to score goals. Non-Braalians can play with the use of magnetic gauntlets, but not at the level of control exhibited by Braalians. Prior to founding the legion, Cosmic Boy was a champion Magnoball player.

Never a prosperous planet, Braal was devastated by the economic collapse of the United Planets. Braal entered into a war with Imsk, and was thrashed when the Imskians deployed a weapon which turned Braalian magnetic abilities against them, at the battle of Venado Bay. Those who got a partial dose were merely knocked out and lost their magnetic abilities. Those who got a full dose were torn apart magnetically. After being defeated, Braal was occupied by Imsk, which kept a sizable garrison on the planet to control it.
