BR standard class 9F 92203

British Railways standard class 9F No. 92203 is a preserved British steam locomotive. She has been named Black Prince in preservation, but did not carry this name in service.
92203 was the third 9F of the BR standard class 9F locomotives built by Swindon in January 1959. When withdrawn after a working life of less than 9 years, she was working the heavy iron ore trains out of Liverpool Docks to Shotton Steelworks, and worked the last steam-hauled ore train in November 1967.
92203's wheel arrangement in Whyte notation is 2-10-0. The central pair of drive wheels is flangeless to allow better cornering.
The locomotive was purchased straight from BR by the artist David Shepherd. He named her Black Prince, a name never carried by 92203 (indeed only the last 9F, 92220 Evening Star was ever named) though fellow standard, Britannia class No. 70008 Black Prince was thus named after Edward of Woodstock.
92203 has recently completed a two-year overhaul. She is preserved in full working order and is presently based at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.
