Brønderslev

Brønderslev is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in North Jutland County on Vendsyssel, the northernmost part of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 317 km² and has a total population of 20,107 (2005). Its mayor is Jens Arne Hedegaard, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Brønderslev. Other important towns in the region are Aalborg, Hjørring, Hirtshals, and Frederikshavn.

One of its sister cities is Nässjö, Sweden.

Neighboring municipalities are Dronninglund to the southeast, Sæby to the east, Hjørring and Løkken-Vrå to the north, Pandrup to the west, and Aabybro and Aalborg to the south.

By January 1, 2007 Brønderslev municipality will cease to exist, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Dronninglund municipality to form the new Brønderslev-Dronninglund municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 630 km² and a total population of 35,320 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Nordjylland ("North Jutland Region").
