[edit] Regular Programming

BPM is presented in a typical Top 40 radio style, but the DJs are not typical of Top 40 FM. BPM features a mix of current hit tracks, DJ interludes, Dance music news (called "BPM Bullet Points"), and classic dance hits from years past (called "Backspins").

Artists You'll Hear: Madonna, Shape:UK, Freemasons, Ian Van Dahl, September, D.H.T., Deborah Cox, Benassi Bros., iiO

[edit] Programming Blocks

The Spin Factor - A two hour Dance music countdown, hosted by Alan Freed, showcasing the top songs on BPM based entirely on requests and user input. It consists of approximately 28 songs and the #1 song from one year prior. This program replaced "The 33 & 1/3" in January 2006. "The Spin Factor" plays Sundays at 3pm ET, Mondays at 6pm ET, and Monday nights at Midnight ET.

The BPM Project - An hour-long program that spotlights new tracks and listeners are invited to respond with feedback on whether they want to hear them played regularly. Also hosted by Alan Freed, this program replaced the "Wannabes" segments that were part of "33 & 1/3". Like "The Spin Factor," this show plays three times a week, immediately following "The Spin Factor."

D.U.I. (Dancing Under the Influence) Thursday nights starting at 10pm ET - Six hours of DJ sets from BPM Resident DJs

  • 10PM ET: DJ Smooth (Orlando)
  • 11PM ET: DJ Armando (Hartford)
  • 12AM ET: DJ Scotty Boy (Las Vegas)
  • 1AM ET: Lil Cee (New York)

In addition, "Matt Darey's Nocturnal" (A popular world-wide Dance Music show) airs from 2am to 4am ET as part of the "D.U.I." block.

Air 81 - A nine hour block of DJ sets by BPM Resident DJs on Friday nights presented in the format of an imaginary flight across America from east to west. Each hour features a different DJ from a different city. Each hour the "flight" "touches down" in a new city and the next DJ plays.

  • 9PM ET: Johnny Budz (New York)
  • 10PM ET: DJ KJ of K5 (Orlando)
  • 11PM ET: Cato K (Miami)
  • 12AM ET: Joe Bermudez (Boston)
  • 1AM ET: Kill Tha DJ (Minneapolis/St. Paul)
  • 2AM ET: Brian Howe (Denver)
  • 3AM ET: Mark D (Houston)
  • 4AM ET: Marcus McBride (Phoenix)
  • 5AM ET: Jamie J Sanchez (San Francisco)

In addition, the show is presented in a reverse format, simulating the flight back west to east, called "Air 81 Replay-n-Reverse." "Air 81 Replay-n-Reverse" is aired every Sunday starting at 6pm ET.

United Nation - A nine hour block of DJ sets aired every Saturday night. "United Nation" features BPM Resident DJs:

  • 10PM ET: Chris The Greek (New York)
  • 11PM ET: Junior Vasquez (New York)
  • 12AM ET: Guest DJ set
  • 1AM ET: Chris Cox (Los Angeles)
  • 2AM ET: Junior Vasquez (New York)
  • 3AM ET: Johnny Vicious (New York)
  • 4AM ET: Hour 2 of Matt Darey's "Nocturnal" (guest hour)

Matt Darey's "Nocturnal" opens "United Nation" at 8pm ET.

Backspins With Boesche - A two hour block of Classic Dance music tracks from the 1990s and early 2000s mixed by BPM Resident DJ, Jon Boesche. "Backspins with Boesche" airs every Saturday at Noon ET.

[edit] Awards

BPM has twice been the recipient of the annual International Dance Music Awards' "Best Satellite Dance Channel" award. This is notable for the fact that the award has been offered only twice and the award is voted on by the general public. BPM was the favorite of the other XM Dance Cluster channels nominated - "The Move" and "The System" - as well as competitor Sirius' dance channels.

[edit] Popularity

Though no ratings are offered for XM channels, it is hinted at that BPM is among the top XM channels in popularity. This is evidenced by the fact that BPM has been included in almost every XM cross-promotion. For example, BPM can also be heard by subscribers of DirecTV Satellite TV (ch. 859), on AOL Radio, online at listen.xmradio.com, on three U.S. airlines: JetBlue, AirTran and United Airlines, and with supported devices for users of Cingular and Alltel wireless.
