Boy Scouts of Liberia

The Boy Scouts of Liberia, the national Scouting organization of Liberia, was founded in 1922, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1965. The boys only Boy Scouts of Liberia has 2,418 members as of 2004.

In 1975, Emmett Harmon was awarded the Bronze Wolf, the only distinction of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world Scouting.

The program emphasis is on the dignity of labor and on guiding boys to self-discovery.

Girls in Liberia are served by the Liberian Girl Guides Association, with 345 members (as of 2003). Founded in 1920, the girls-only organization became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1928 and again in 1966 after a hiatus.
