Welcome!

Hello Boxes, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links to help you know what's going on at Wikipedia. If you still need help, just put {{helpme}} on your user page.

I was blocked for being a sockpuppet of User:Userboxes. I am definatley not User:Userboxes. Therefore this block is invalid even though the usernames sound similar. I created this page without any knowledge of him or the ANB case. In fact, when I found out about him I left a note on his talk page inviting him to redirect to me. Unlike User:Userboxes, everything here is subst to avoid the same percieved problems that caused many people to call for the downfall of userboxes. If you block me for anything, do not block me for this.--Boxes 23:44, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Proof I am not a Sockpuppet: [1]

[edit] Account operator?

I was asked by AC to check you weren't a sockpuppet, and I see from the actual user page this is a sort of project or role account. Have you noted yourself as the operator of the account anywhere (as Crotalus did for User:Userboxes) that's publicly known, for transparency? Pure role accounts are presently not permitted on en:. (There are pages like User:Humanbot which probably shouldn't be user pages, but anyway) - David Gerard 00:37, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IP Block

Okay Can I get my Ip unblocked too?

00:18, 13 February 2006, MarkSweep (Talk) blocked #98908 (expires 00:18, 14 February 2006) (Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Boxes". The reason given for Boxes's block is: "suspected sockpuppet of User:Userboxes; block is intended as temporary, while debate on [[WP:AN#User:)

  • Yes, Can I get my Ip address unblocked now that my username is unblocked?--Boxes 01:35, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked Again...sigh

No valid reason given for block. I was not vandalising. Also this has caught my IP address in the block. The stated reason by User:Tony Sidaway is nowhere to be found in this document. Wikipedia:Blocking_policy#When_blocks_may_be_used

If Tony doesn't like the page I started he can put it up on WP:MFD. This page was created in response to WP:UUB - It is an attempt to find a compromise between those who hate userboxes and those who want to protect free speech. I have required that all the userboxes on this page be subst so that the deletionist main argument against userboxes, the ability to use whatlinkshere to factionalise, does not apply. It also moves the userboxes out of official wikipedia space so they do not have the aire of authority from the wiki-media foundation. I would have hoped that Tony would see this as a step in the right direction to finally put an end to the userbox wars--Userboxes 03:16, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

My block log for easy reference: [2]

I removed the unblock template. At this point, it looks like your not going to be unblocked. If you really want to contribute to Wikipedia, try making another account that wont cause a name/account dispute. SWD316 talk to me 03:44, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

I want a fair review. Also, my userpage deserved a MFD not speedy deletion.--Userboxes 03:45, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I blocked you because you really don't seem to be interested in producing anything resembling an encyclopedia. That's why we're all here, you know. I deleted all of the pages you produced because they seemed to be clones of pages that are already in project space. If you just want to have a chat and share pretty pictures and slogans, you could try myspace.com or something. --Tony Sidaway 03:58, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
I can't tell what this user is interested in doing; the account has only been around for around a day. Did anyone leave a warning here before blocking? Or a request for clarification? The account hasn't done the project any harm; and an interest in improving the 'social software' aspect of Wikipedia is not irrelevant to the project as a whole, even where it is misguided. I have unblocked the IP. That said, let me add to User:Boxes that it is not good form to create an account solely to work in the User: and Wikipedia: spaces. Even if this is a role account, and you want to help your friends use userboxes effectively, please also spend time contributing to related articles (about existing social platforms? internet memes? &c.) and help pages (about server load caused by images and templates? and how to effectively use them). +sj + 06:46, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey tony, I thought you would support what I am trying to do here. Since the userboxes will always exist in one form or another I thought we could reach a compromise by moving the userboxes into template space. Unlike other pages, this one requires subst and makes sure that no one can hot-link templates directly off this page. You have to copy and paste. Since you dislike userboxes I thought you would support this move to get userboxes out of main template space and into coded userbox space. Also, please unblock the ip address so I can continue editing from my main account.--Userboxes 04:01, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Boxes, I tring to understand what you are saying but I think you are misinterpreting the meaning of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is about creating an on-line Encyclopedia not advertising. Tony was right in blocking you. You are obviously not here to create an encyclopedia but create a disruption. Although I agree that your page should have been up for MfD rather than speedy deletion, it would have been deleted eventually. SWD316 talk to me 04:41, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
