[edit] Template:College of Arms

Thanks for your excellent additions to the various heradry articles. I see that you have deleted {{College of Arms}} from several articles relating to the College of Arms. Do you object to it? I admit, it could be better, but I think it is useful to link various elements together. -- ALoan (Talk) 03:51, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. As always, these things can be improved. Let me know if you have any ideas. Keep up the good work.

Apologies for asking, but where did Image:Conrad Swan York.jpg come from? It looks remarkably like a cropped version of the image on this page. -- ALoan (Talk) 16:05, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. It came from a friend, and I had no idea that it was copyrighted. I shall contact the copyright holder to see if it can't be licensed or whatever. Boven 18:41, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
One more thing - I see you have been adding College of Arms and Officer of Arms to the "See also" section of the articles for the individual offices. However, there is no need for the "See also" section to include terms that are already wikilinked elsewhere in the article - the general rule is that a term should be linked the first time it is mentioned, but not thereafter. I'm sure there is a guideline about it somewhere, if you need me to point it out. -- ALoan (Talk) 19:46, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scotland

Thanks for your note. Any plans to start a Scottish Heraldry page? I'd be glad to contribute but am concentrating efforts on botany and Scottish clans for the moment. Mark Nesbitt 08:32, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

More than adequately covered by the Clan Nesbitt page! Mark Nesbitt 21:47, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Heraldic beasts

Great start on the heraldic beasts category. I think I've followed your lead by finding some other heraldic animals in the Legendary Creatures cat and labeling them as heraldic. Well done.--Eva db 06:59, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Charles Francis Stein, III

I have put in a request to move the page that was Charles Stein (and is now Charles Francis Stein, III) back to Charles Francis Stein since there are a Charles Stein, Professor Emeritus of Statistics at Stanford University, a Charles J. Stein (musician), and a Charles Stein who is a columnist for the Boston Globe, all of whom are rather more famous and prominent (though certainly no more laudable in their worldly contributions) than Charles Francis Stein, III. Perhaps a disambiguation page is in order also, in addition to the moving of the excellent founder of the American College of Heraldry to Charles Francis Stein from Charles Stein? Thanks very much, both for your consideration and for your additions to Wikipedia. Much appreciated. Also, please forgive any carnage I have created in the edit logs of Charles Francis Stein, III; I had a senior moment while doing some of the editing, and I hope no one is adversely affected. Please also see the talk page for more; again, I hope that I have not done anything offensive in this process. Note, finally, that I have changed all links to Charles Stein (the heraldrist and skipper) to point to the currently appropriate page, and put a preliminary profile of Charles Stein (the statistician) at Charles Stein.

Thanks again. F.Shelley 02:53, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Heralds

Updated DYK query On 11 August 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Heralds, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

A nice little article! Enjoyed reading it, and probably will pick up the novel as I enjoy non-chronological timelines. It's on the main page for DYK now. Cheers -- Samir धर्म 21:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Glad you enjoyed the book. It is pretty well one-of-a-kind. There is not a lot of heraldic fiction floating around that I know of.----dave-- 16:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Heraldry

Hi Dave,

Got your email. Great job on the rewrite, I've been meaning to do something like that since the article had a peer review (which went nowhere) a couple of months ago. It's much more coherent than before, and is now cited properly! The history section is still a bit light; a quick look at the French and German versions shows they talk about a lot of stuff other than the rules of blazon, so maybe we can pick up some ideas from there. It felt a little Anglocentric in places, although this is probably a consequence of most of the English-language literature on the topic being about British heraldry. Maybe once a few more of the Heraldry by country articles get written we can mention some of the differences. Also, I wonder if it is necessary to have both the Image:Divisions of the field.png and Image:Ordinaries.png images, in there, as they are quite long, and in Internet Explorer lead to some unsightly white space, although everything's fine in Firefox.

Btw, I saw your 'officers of arms in the ODNB' proposal. I think it's a good idea, and I do have access to the ODNB, however I'm going to be quite busy for the next few months so I won't be much help with this.

Keep up the good work (including the nice image uploads) ! Dr pda 19:30, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A Barnstar for You

The Editor's Barnstar
I award you this Editor's Barnstar for letting the heraldry article have it. Keep up the great work. Forlornandshorn 21:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] GFDL Picture of South African Heralds

Can you include a bit more information about the rationale for GFDL permission on the image that you uploaded of the South African Heralds. I uploaded it the commons here: , and someone questioned it.--Forlornandshorn 18:21, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Order of St John

That looks like a fine system of organization, dave. I'll try to help implement that as I have time. Best of luck!--Eva bd 21:13, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Johnqadamsarms.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Johnqadamsarms.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 14:47, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
