[edit] User:MetsBot
A manually-initiated pywikipedia-based bot which would be used for template substitution and commenting out images. It will only run when it is given an image or template to run on by me. It will comment out images that are speedy deleted, deleted because of IFD, or deleted because the copyright or source is unknown after the image has been tagged as such for seven days, and will substitute templates listed at Wikipedia:Template substitution#Templates that should be substituted and template deletion debates that end in "substitue and delete". It will get the pages using the image from the "File links" section of the image page and the pages using the template from the "What links here" link. —Mets501 (talk) 15:16, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Surely speedy deleted and ifd'd images should be removed altogether rather than commenting out? Martin 15:21, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Also, I'd like to also let this bot run on AWB or the pywikipedia framework for SI writing style adjustments (see International System of Units#SI writing style), and for other simple, uncontroversial changes (such as changing Maori to Māori, etc.) —Mets501 (talk) 14:14, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Approved for trial run for uncontroversial spelling changes, such as adding diacritical marks, or other typos that are so unambiguous that a corresponding redirect exists) and for substitution of templates used on user talk pages, for archival of discussions on project space pages, soon-to-be-deleted userboxes, etc., basically anything outside of articles. Awaiting clarification with regards to the image tasks. Recommending against MoS-based edits of SI unit notation, which is eerily reminiscent of User:Bobblewik. —freak(talk) 15:07, Aug. 19, 2006 (UTC)
OK, I've done a trial of just under 100 articles for adding diacritical marks (for the trial I did "Jose Canseco" --> "José Canseco") and a few for substituting templates (for the trial I used test1, test1a, and test2). Working perfectly. —Mets501 (talk) 16:59, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- I've been informed that my bot was making changes inside references, links, and images: I've since changed it, and tested it, the bot no longer does this. —Mets501 (talk) 19:49, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Update - I've been running the bot for a couple of days now, it's working perfectly. I've done template substitution, template replacement, and diacritical mark replacements. I'm going to try out commenting out images deleted for no source or copyright after a week and removing images which are speedy deleted or deleted because of IFD, as those are very unlikely to be re-uploaded, using the new feature of WP:AWB —Mets501 (talk) 13:48, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- SMALL image replacement run (100 edits or less) approved for testing. — xaosflux Talk 01:31, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

- The image tasks work great, as WP:AWB is great :-) See [1] for an example of commenting out, [2] for an example of image removal, [3] for an example of diacritical mark correction, [4] for an example of template changing, and [5] for an example of template substitution. I think that's everything. Note that the image commenting out worked for everything but two images, both added by the same person, to which was applied a random line break; the formatting was

- Everything else was 100% perfect, even in infoboxes, templates, and galleries. I will tell Martin about the AWB error.
- I would also like to do a bit of category tagging, such as when categories are renamed or deleted (and need to be orphaned), etc. This will be done with AWB's category tagging features, which are very well tested by many different users, so I don't think this even needs a trial period. —Mets501 (talk) 16:14, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Approved, until you get flagged keep it to 2-3 edits/min.
