The Paracletos - Periclytos Controversy or Periclytos - Paracletos Controversy is a controversy related to certain Biblical texts. According to Christian sources, the Greek word Paracletos is found in John 14:16, 15:26, 16:7 and 18:36. The Greek word Paracletos has been translated into English as "Comforter". Islamic scholars, on the other hand have maintained that the word Paracletos used in the Christian tradition is actually a corruption of the Greek word Periclytos which could be a Greek translation of the Arabic name Muhammad, both meaning Honored [One]. [1]. The Paracletos - Periclytos Controversy thus enters as a component of the Muslim/Christian debate over whether Muhammad is foretold in Biblical prophesy.
