Mission: Bossou

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mission: Bossou is a charitable project of the students of Bergen County Academies. Its official purpose is to deliver food as quickly as possible to people suffering from hunger in Bossou [Guinea] and surrounding communities.

Started in 2002 as an inter-disciplinary project studying the effects of globalization, Mission: Bossou evolved into a full-fledged student run non-profit organization seeking the sustainable development of the village of Bossou, Guinea. Mission: Bossou operates out of the Bergen County Academies and is directed by Dr. Ken Mayers. Mission: Bossou completed its first successful task in 2003 by sending a 20-ton food shipment to the village ending a hunger crisis and feeding an entire village for six months. This shipment was delivered personally by the U.S. Ambassador, and the transportation of the goods was coordinated with UVODIZ, an NGO partner organization in the village.
