Bosworth Community College

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bosworth Community College is a secondary school in Desford, Leicester, England. It is a Specialist sports college, a status which was attained in 2003. The principal is Sue Rothwell.

The school has witnessed a significant drop in the nuber of A-C pass grades at GCSE. About 50% of pupils from GCSE stay on at Bosworth to do their A and As levels.

Staff members use their first names rather than surnames to try to encourage a system of respect towards the student and remove any formalities.

Recent additions to the school added the maths block and dance studio.

As the school is a community college, many use it for after school activities, such as swimming classes.

Being a specialist sports college the college receives extra funding for sport-related items, such as the refurbishment of the swimming pool.

A controversial plan to impose "negative points" for student misconduct provoked a half-day student protest in September 2006.[1]
