[edit] The Subjects

The Boston hardcore scene was at one point overrun by neo-Nazis, so a group of Boston hardcore fans created a group called Friends Stand United (FSU) who were credited for getting rid of them. Their methods were aggressive, and they would sometimes attack Nazi-Skinheads at concerts.

FSU members also went after the drunken jocks who would pour into the bars and clubs on Lansdowne Street just opposite of Fenway Park. FSU members allegedly attacked kids for drinking alcohol or doing drugs, which went against their straight edge beliefs. FSU has since spread to other American cities.

David King stated the following in Metroland:

....FSU has itself become synonymous with gang violence in the hardcore scene. Hardcore shows are now few and far between in Boston, as there have been numerous FSU-related stabbings and fights. In Seattle, FSU members have repeatedly tried to disrupt shows by hardcore band Danger and beat up its lead singer for singing an anti-FSU song. In Portland, Maine, FSU members are known for walking the streets looking for fights.[1];

[edit] The Documentary

This movie is based on some of the ideas and actions of FSU, as described in this article. The violent acts depicted in the film are recorded by members of that Boston hardcore crew. Their website claims that Boston beatdown is an independent film company – and only an independent film company. Boston Beatdown is not FSU and FSU is not Boston Beatdown.[2].

The film company claims that this is documentation of the FSU, and that the persons in the film were not acting or effected by the filming. It is hard to believe that this is the case as Colin, of hardcore band Colin From Arabia, admits to having a started a fight simply because he knew he was being filmed by representatives of Boston Beatdown.[1]. As result of the violence depicted in the film, FSU T-shirts were banned from many venues in the Northeastern United States.
