From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Borellians are a fictional people from the 1978 television series Battlestar Galactica.
[edit] Borellian Society and Culture
Little is known about the Borellians or their society, except that they are nomadic people who originates from a desert world/region, described as being "the land of the mega sun and the endless sands."
Typically, Borellians are a secretive and independent people who dislike the company of non Borellians, but hate Cylons more than other races. They have a patriarchal culture that venerates the concept of the warrior, and are governed by a set of rules known as 'the code', which dictates their moral and social responsibilities as Borellians, and contains an unknown amount of rules relating to crime/punishment.
'The Code' compels Borellian warriors, known as “Nomen“, to carry a weapon at all time. However, it also forbids them from drawing their weapon rashly, without first considering their actions.
A Borellian Nomen's weapon of choice is known as "Laser Bolo", and consists of two transparent spheres connected by a conductor of unknown design. When thrown, the conductor is energized and is capable of killing any human or Cylon that it comes into contact with. The Nomen in the fleet were seen to carry three Laser Bolo slung across their chest.
The 12 colonies typically see Borellians as being uncivilized, though their code has strong rules regarding deception and dishonorable conduct.
[edit] Physical Characteristics
Borellians are typically heavy set with dark hair, tanned skin and bushy eyebrows. They are unique among the people of the fleet in that they have pronounced ridges above their eyes giving them an appearance that is superficially similar to Klingons.
Borellians have demonstrated above average strength (Baltar's Escape) indicating that they may come from a high gravity world. Some Borellians are capable of lowering their breathing and heart rate to give the appearance of death (Baltar's Escape).
It is uncertain whether Borellians are an ethnic group,or a subspecies of human. Fannon speculates that they may be a distinct race that does not originate from Cobol.
[edit] Entry and Exit
Three Borellian Nomen (Taba, Maga and Bora) were introduced during the events of The Man with Nine Lives. They exited the series during “Baltar's Escape”, when they helped Baltar to escape on a captured Eastern Alliance destroyer.
