Boonah, Queensland

Boonah is a town of approximately 3000 persons and the administrative centre of the Boonah Shire LGA in South East Queensland, Australia. The town is 84 km southwest of the state capital Brisbane. 'Boonah' is the local Aboriginal Australian word meaning 'bloodwood tree' (Corymbia gummifera).
Boonah is the hub of a large agricultural area, including cattle, cereal grains, carrots, potatoes and timber. Several National Parks are located nearby, including Main Range National Park, Moogerah Peaks National Park, Mount French National Park as well as Lake Moogerah, which is popular with tourists. Boys Town, a juvenile detention centre where young male offenders learn farming skills, is also situated nearby.
In the 1880s, Adolph, Levi and Max Blumberg opened a small store on the rise where the town is now situated. Locals have named the high part of town 'Blumbergville' after these pioneers.
