Bonnycastle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bonnycastle is a neighborhood four miles southeast of downtown Louisville, Kentucky USA. It is located in the Highlands section of Louisville.
In 1848 merchant Issac Everett purchased a 158 acre farm and mansion house from the Angereau Gray family. His daughter, Harriet, married John Bonnycastle; giving the neighborhood its latter name. The family began subdividing land on present day Sherwood Avenue in 1872, though development didn't begin until Cherokee Park was built and a street car line moved out Bardstown Road to the area. The southern portion was subdivided after Mr Bonnycastle's death and was named "Bonnycastle's Addition" in his honor.
The original mansion house is still standing, now called the Everett/ Bonnycastle Mansion.
