[edit] Geography
Bonnefontaine is a little village in Jura of 86 inhabitants (INSEE 1999). It is located in the heart of the first plate of Jura in edge of the Côte de l'Heute to 580 meters of altitude. In addition to its center, the village has a hamlet : the "Patouillet", there existed about it another, the "Vermillère" but this locality is uninhabited today. Traditionally agriculture is turned towards the dairy breeding for the manufacture of a regional cheese, the Comté (cheese).
[edit] History
Until 1897, the village was called "Les Faisses" (what means buttocks, in French). On this date, this name, considered defamatory was replaced by that of Bonnefontaine in reference to the three stone fountains of the village.
