Bone Eater's Well

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A central plot device in the anime and manga Inuyasha, the fictional Bone Eater's Well is supposedly so called because it was once used to dispose of the bones of defeated yōkai.

In the series, the well can be used to magically transport a person and some amount of material objects from the modern era, where it's housed as part of the Higurashi family shrine, to the Sengoku period of feudal Japan, apparently sometime around the 1550 A.D. on the Gregorian calendar, and vice versa—though for some obscure reason only Inuyasha, the title character, and Kagome, the other central protagonist, seem to be able to go through it. The first time Kagome went through it was when Mistress Centipede broke through the sealed well and saw that Kagome had the Jewel of Four Souls in her and tried to take it.
