Bond dipole moment
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The bond dipole moment is a measure of how polar a bond is within a molecule. The measurement is given as follows:
- μ = δ * d
where μ is the bond dipole moment in coulomb-meters (1 debyes = 3.34 x 10-30 C-m), δ is the amount of charge at either end of the dipole, given in coulombs, and d is the distance between the charges in meters. For a complete molecule the overall dipole moment is calculated as the vector sum of individual dipole moments.
