The name "bonbon" stems from the French word bon, meaning "good." In French, a bonbon is simply a sweet, but in English a bonbon is a candy with a fondant center, often with fruit or nuts, covered in fondant or chocolate.[1][2][3]

In Australia, a 'bonbon' or 'bon-bon' is what is known in Britain as a Christmas cracker.
