Innsbruck, an Austrian city, was annexed by Nazi Germany in 1938. It was bombed 21 times by the Allies in World War II, suffering heavy damage.

Widespread area bombing of Innsbruck began in 1943 and went on till 1945. The Innsbruck cathedral, Wilten train station, and the Maria-Theresienstrasse were destroyed.
