Boloco
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Boloco (formerly The Wrap) is a chain of restaurants that features inspired burritos, wraps, salads, and smoothies in its menu. It has 9 restaurants in the greater Boston area, spread out through the financial district, the campuses of many city-based colleges, and the hospital district. In addition, it has a location open in Hanover, New Hampshire, as well as 4 franchised units, one each in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Charlotte and San Diego. There are wraps representing Mexican, Japanese, Thai, and Mediterranean cuisines.
In early 2005, Boloco sold its franchising rights for the area outside of New England to a group of entrepreneurs who aim to spread the chain across the country, mostly in shopping malls and airports. Meanwhile, Boloco hopes to continue to expand within New England and create more locations outside of the metropolitan Boston area.
[edit] History
The Wrap was started in 1996 as the combined brainchild of co-founders Adam Liebman, and Gregg Harris, as a wrap and smoothie restaurant. In 1997, the duo of founders opened a restaurant called "Under Wraps" in Boston's Back Bay. A third partner, John Pepper, changed the business model from organic growth to mass expansion with an infusion of new, outside capital. This began in 1998 when they acquired a competing business and expanded to three locations under the new name, The Wrap and Smoothie Bar (Under Wraps had to be abandoned due to legal reasons). Over the following years, there were a few setbacks and unsuccessful business decisions, but the team overcame those and eventually the chain grew to the current 10 locations. Now, including franchised units there are 14 locations.
