Bojnourd

Bojnurd (Persian: بجنورد) is the capital city of North Khorasan province, Iran. It is about 701 km from Tehran. It had an estimated population of 181,648 in 2005.[1] It is also spelled Bojnūrd, Bujnūrd, or Bujnurd.[2]
Bojnurd is located in the plains and enjoys a mild, mountainous weather. This city was originally called "Bijan Gerd", with gerd meaning city and bojnurd meaning Bijans city. Majority of the inhabitants in Bojnourd are ethnic turks[citation needed] (only of bojnurd city & speaking turky[citation needed]) and ethnic Kurds (village of bojnourd), speaking in the Kurmanji dialect of Kurdish language.
The ancient city was situated on a hill northwest of the present city of Bojnurd, known as Sareban Mahaleh.
Maneh is a small sector in the northwest of Bojnurd city. The most important village is Shirindarre which is a tourist area and in which rice is produced.
