[edit] Characters

There are 11 characters in Body Blows. In one player mode the player can choose to play as 1 of 4 characters, Nik, Dan, Junior or Lo Ray. In other modes players can select from 10 of the characters in the game.

[edit] Main Contenders

  • Nik is the brother of Dan and the down town gang leader. His desire to win is only matched by the hatred of his brother.. he uses the devastating force to summon a powerful electro-bolt which leaves most opponents reeling.
  • Dan is the elder brother of Nik and a rival gangland rebel, he shadows his brother's moves every step of the way. Like Nik, he is also able to draw upon inner energies to produce a devastating bolt of pure aggression.
  • Junior. This solid British boxing bulldog has forgotten all about Queensbury rules... in his repertoire he has a fine selection of devastating kicks as well as tough punches! With his world-class stamina and incredible fists, Junior is potentially King of the Ring.
  • Lo Ray is a Buddhist monk who left the sanctuary of his shaolin temple many moons ago, seeking fame and fortune on the prize fighting circuit. With some spectacular moves, magical abilities and tremendous agility, Lo Ray is state-of-the-martial-art!

[edit] Reaction

Body Blows was instantly successful and stayed at number 1 in the full price charts for 5 weeks. It was instantly compared to Street Fighter II, one of the most popular fighting games of the early 90s. The following are some of the ludicrous review results the game received at the time of release, note that the scores are solely from Amiga specific magazines. This can be atttributed to an attempt to allay fears that Amiga owners were feeling at the time in the light of consoles' increasing popularity.

"The best beat-em up money can buy" - 91% - CU Amiga
"If you thought Streetfighter II was the business, think again" - 92% - The One
"The best beat-em up yet - even better than SNES Streetfighter II" - 92% - Amiga Force

Despite these reviews, Street Fighter II has been much more successful and has become one of the most repected games in videogame history, and received many sequels.
