Bodies Without Organs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bodies Without Organs, formed in Sweden in 2004, is a musical group featuring Alexander Bard, Martin Rolinski and Marina Schiptjenko. Also connected to the band are Jean-Pierre Barda (from Army of Lovers) and record producer Anders Hansson. Their debut album "Prototype" generated seven top 20 hit singles in Scandinavia and across Eastern Europe and reached platinum status in Sweden. A second album "Halcyon Days", released in April, 2006, shipped gold and has so far generated three further hit singles. The new remix album "Halcyon Nights" will release in December, 2006, including, never released remixes.
The name of the band derives from the philosophical term body without organs, developed by French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and psychoanalyst Félix Guattari in their 1972 book Anti-Œdipus. Bard, an author and lecturer of philosophy, referred to the ideas of Deleuze in his 2000 book Nätokraterna (Netocracy).
The group, which received a Grammis Award in 2006 for Sweden's most popular band of the year, has recently shortened its name to BWO. Their electronic pop music has been described as the missing link between ABBA and Kraftwerk and BWO have come to represent the more commercial side of the thriving Scandinavian electro scene, also featuring artists like Robyn, The Knife and Jenny Wilson.
