Template talk:BMW cars

Page created, based on Sfoskett's Template:Ferrari vehicles.

Note that the start and end dates of each model are difficult to represent exactly in the table. Due to the layout, one cannot nicely represent one model ending production in the same year its replacement starts. Also, unless the simplicity of the table layout is compromised, more significant overlaps cannot be represented (e.g. the cabrio and touring models of the E30 continuing in production for two years after the E36 had been introduced). I have generally used the date of the new model's introduction. Thus, we should expect people to refer to the particular model pages for full details of a model's lifespan. For people that wish to check the dates I've used are correct, and fix them, please use date of start of production, rather than "model years" or the date at which the car was first presented at a motor show or to the press.

Sfoskett also suggests we decide "whether to include generation-specific info on the Series page or on the E page". Let's have that discussion here, for want of a better place.

Maybe we could try EasyTimeline. --Commander Keane 13:11, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Z8

I've noticed the Z8 is placed under the supercar section however I think it is more suited as a sportscar. It should be placed with the rest of the Zs, i.e. Z1,3,4 but I see the production of the Z8 overlaps with the Z4 so it could be difficult adjusting the template.

[edit] Splitting the timeline

After my last edit, this timeline goes from 1960 to 2015. At 1024x768, the year digits barely fit my screen. With the links on the left, the template didn't fit at all. With smaller resolutions it is even worse: you have to scoll left to see the more recent cars.

My suggestion is to split the template in two, with the 1980s as a grey area which will be included in both templates. Names could be "Early BMW vehicles" and "Modern BMW vehicles", as done in many other vehicle timelines. What I can't do is the history splitting. But first, does anyone angree with this? -- NaBUru38 23:18, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
