Wikipedia:Block on demand
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Block on demand is a proposed Wikipedia policy under which admins would be allowed to grant a user's request for a block their account for a limited period of time (e.g. to enforce a Wikivacation). The suggestion was raised informally on the Administrators' Noticeboard by User:Dbachmann on May 10, 2005[1]. The proposal has potential advantages and disadvantages.
[edit] Pros
- This policy could mitigate the problem of users vandalizing the wiki on purpose in order to provoke a block.
- The frequent attempts by admins to block themselves suggests that there may a significant number of users who would like to have enforced wiki-vacations.
[edit] Cons
- If the policy led to more blocks, it could cause the Block log and List of blocked IP addresses and usernames to become cluttered with user-requested blocks.
